“Pennywise” is the name of a fictional character created by author Stephen King. The character appears in King’s 1986 horror novel “It.” Pennywise is a malevolent, shape-shifting entity that primarily takes the form of a clown to terrorize and prey on the children of the small town of Derry, Maine. The novel “It” was later adapted into a miniseries in 1990 and two feature films in 2017 and 2019, with actor Bill Skarsgård portraying Pennywise in the more recent adaptations.
